Here is the reworked geometry for Marf Mifflehopper. Thank you Chatree for all your incredibly helpful suggestions. He is now based more off of concentric circles at the shoulders, legs and especially the face. A quick rigging test revealed that sure enough, he deforms much better now.
Still time for any more suggestions though!

I think it looks good, just for kicks you should convert it to Sub-D. for ref I ll post my hand up later when i get home tomorrow. another long night for me at work :( keep up the good work and i can't wait to see him in action
