Portfolio Animatic

This is the animatic for my senior portfolio animation. Essentially its the storyboards filmed and timed so the viewer can get an idea of what will happen in the short.

As you'll find, i decided to only have music and no sound effects. I did this because i really feel it evokes that 20's feel, just before sound came into movies, when all there was to drive the story and mood were the actors and the in-theater accompaniement.

Let me know what you think!

It is so exciting to see a posting! Nice contrast in design of characters. Love the swoops of little guy clearing the table.
Details like pinky in air and first digit of finger being bent really add weight and force.

Since now is the time to make changes....Saw the ending coming.
Story is everything! Needs a twist.
Might want a few crudgemudgen characters in the BG with a simple blink or drink loop. That would show off your strong character design skills.
Sound effects are huge. especially the crack of billiard balls, squeak of chalk; could be muted.
Still want to see a vector render of the BG, test how the character look with it.
Pretty exciting to see all your skills come together!

I appreciate all of your suggestions Margot...always the teacher!

I agree about having some background characters...it would be nice and if i have time i will definitely do that.

My ultimate goal with this short is great animation, so thats where most of my effort will go. Once i feel that has been achieved, i will definitely add anything that will spice things up!

I also plan try a version with sound effects and see what people think. At the same time, i do enjoy the feeling the short has with just music. We'll see.

Its definitely exciting to bring all of the things ive learned together, and i appreciate your guidance along the way Margot!

Sounds like you need some one ornery (such as myself) to push you to do your best. What about the story line!?!?
This is about showing Hollywood what you can do for them.

I suppose it is a bit predictable since it is a retelling of a classic theme. But im not sure that's necessarily a bad thing. I can think of a million stories where you know how it will end, but you're watching it to see the characters interact and see how they get to the end.

I'm definitely open to suggestions on how to make the story better but i must admit, though it may be a little predictable, i do like it.

I think I agree with Sean about the story line. It was predictable but it's exactly as he said, I knew what was coming, but I was more entertained by the expressions and interaction between the characters :-D I really liked it, it made me chuckle and as you'd already mentioned (Sean) time is of the essence, but if you have some to spare then definitely some background character[s] and possibly some muted sound effects would really make it great. I am both impressed, and ANGRILY JEALOUS ahaha! Oop, by the way this is Angela V.

That was amazing! I know nothing about design and animation, but I think it is a terffic start to what will certainly be an amazing final product!
